Monmono Blue Restaurant and Gallery

Monmono Blue

Monmono Blue is a restaurant and gallery interior in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. The whole space is finished in a single blue tone, creating a monochrome setting for art. Four zones recall a casino, a hotel, a retail store and a piazza, and a vintage car is placed with part of the body out of view. Contrast is built with gloss and matt textures and with lighting at 6000K, because warmer light would make the blue look green. Most elements were prefabricated and installed on site. The interior covers 1464 square feet and seats 50 guests.

Reflex Pendant Lamp

Reflex

Reflex is a pendant lamp designed for general and accent lighting. The main structure is a circle divided in the middle and made of natural fabric that is both translucent and reflective. Soft, scattered light similar to light in a forest is produced. A metal ball inside holds two LED sources covered with frosted glass diffusers. The height is adjustable, and the fabric shade can be removed for cleaning. The ceiling cup uses magnetic fasteners, so no bolts remain visible. The shape and the type of light were selected through research with a focus group.

Parametric Cross

Cross is a multifunctional bookstore created for public reading, salon events, coffee and study. A simple warehouse-like space covers 70 percent of the 780 square meter interior, which keeps the construction budget low. The remaining area holds a large partition installation of 48 Chinese moon gates and western arches, generated with parametric software and prefabricated in a factory. The frames are steel and the surfaces are perforated aluminum panels, with embedded LED strips that soften the material. Gradient colors mark each function and help visitors find their way.

Sway Bar Chair

Sway

Sway is a way to explore your own rhythm and patterns. Through observing and discovering these occasional unconscious movements, it has been noted that people sometimes exhibit unconscious behaviors, such as rocking, when entering a state of mental flow. By incorporating a pendulum beneath the seat, the height and the unique sensation that a bar stool provides are leveraged. It provides stability and controlled, small-scale rocking that allows users to explore and find their own rhythm. With its high bar stool design and rocking motion, Sway promotes a calming and contemplative state of mind.

The design defines the interior design strategy of the full palace, the designer made sure to connect all floors by a total height of 12m.
